I wasn’t born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could. After growing up in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, I studied at UNLV for both college and dental school (Go Rebels!) before coming to Dallas for my pediatric residency. My husband, Jon, and I quickly fell in love with East Dallas, and it’s now home where we're raising our daughter.
I knew I wanted to be a dentist at the age of five — even after a mouthful of baby-tooth extractions for braces. Kids do something very special — they recharge my "internal battery." I learn from them every day and it's wonderful getting to watch them grow in the practice. I have a strong artistic side (trained in acrylic and oil painting) so dentistry allows me to work with my hands, build relationships and talk with families, and educate growing minds.
As a mom and a pediatric dentist, I believe care should be built on kindness, trust, and comfort. I’m especially passionate about the connection between oral health, breathing, sleep, and growth, and I stay up to date with the latest techniques to help kids thrive from the very beginning.

Completed 1,000+ hours of continuing education on tongue and lip ties, laser dentistry, and early orthodontics.
Board-Certified Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry—an honor held by less than 10% of pediatric dentists.

Our resident smile architect and good-vibes guru. As a board-certified orthodontist with over a decade of experience, he’s been straightening out bites and boosting confidence one grin at a time—whether it’s with classic braces or sleek clear aligners. He’s all about making treatment a positive, personalized experience for kids and teens (and their parents too).
Oh—and he’s been recognized as one of D Magazine’s Best Dentists multiple times, but he’s too humble to bring that up, so we’ll do it for him.

When he’s not perfecting smiles, Dr. Choate is out cycling like it’s the Tour de France, hitting the slopes in winter, or enjoying quality time with his wife, Kara, and their son, Brooks. He’s the kind of guy who can fix your bite and your bike chain—with a smile.

A Note about Our Founder
(Michael Plunk, DDS, MSD, MSD)
Dr. Michael Plunk founded our wonderful practice back in 1978 and proudly named it “Plunk Smiles.” Over the years, he’s cared for thousands of kids—and earned the charming nickname “the juggling dentist” because, yep, he juggled pins and balls to entertain patients of all ages. (Dental exams and a juggling show? Iconic.)
As a dual-trained specialist, he completed both pediatric and orthodontic residencies at Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas. He also teaches at what’s now Texas A&M University Baylor College of Dentistry, where he met, trained, and recruited Dr. Sabrina Dragan to join the team—and eventually take over the reins.
Dr. Plunk has been a pillar of organized dentistry, serving as President of the Texas Dental State Board and mentoring countless dentists. After more than 50 years in private practice, his true passion was always caring for children’s smiles, something he took to heart every day.
He retired in the summer of 2025, but don’t worry—we’re carrying on his legacy with the same dedication. Our mission remains to care for more than just kids’ teeth—we’re shaping smiles and positive attitudes that last a lifetime.
